Hand-drawn in Glasgow, by Rachael
Hello, and welcome to Scarlet Yarn. It's the luxury homewares brand I run from my studio in Glasgow. It started as a small dream, and it's slowly grown into something I'm really proud of.
To confirm with Rachael: Would you like your surname used anywhere on the site? (The old About page shows it; this site leaves it out until you say.)

From Middle Eastern deserts to the Scottish hills
Growing up, I lived in the Middle East and in Scotland, which gave me the chance to experience two contrasting, but equally beautiful, sets of landscapes and wildlife. That sparked a love of exploring the world as an adult, and I've been lucky enough to see some beautiful places.
My travels, and the places I've called home, are where my designs come from: a fox on a city street, a roller bird against a savannah sunset, a shoal of sardines, a succulent in an Aztec pot. I turn them into quirky homewares that I hope transport you to a happy moment, and bring a little fun to your space.
I'm an occupational therapist by background, which can take creativity in itself. I love working with people, but my passion has always been designing. Design is a therapeutic occupation for me, and in turn I want to make something that brings positivity to someone else.
To confirm with Rachael: Is the occupational therapist background (from your old About page) still something you'd like to share?

An investment in the happiness of your home
Drawn by hand
Every design starts as one of my illustrations: foxes, badgers, birds, fish, fruit and plants, drawn in detail and then brought to life in colours that sing and images that pop.
Chosen materials
I put a lot into choosing the best materials for each design: soft, durable velvets and cottons, ethically sourced feather pads, and a textured 300gsm artist paper for prints. Everything is made in the UK.
Signed, limited editions
Every Scarlet Yarn piece is part of a limited collection, signed and numbered by me. I keep my editions small so each piece feels special: a little treasure that's yours alone.

Luxury is in the details
Quality, longevity and sustainability are at the heart of Scarlet Yarn, and that goes for the packaging too. I want the unboxing to be as enjoyable as the piece itself: a little bit of excitement when it arrives at your door.
I've sourced packaging that's either 100% recyclable or 100% compostable, down to my quirky tissue paper, which is printed with my drawings. It's compostable, and the company that makes it plants trees every time I order. Win-win.
To confirm with Rachael: Is the tissue still from noissue (who plant trees with each order)? The old Eco Packaging page says so.
